Unfair and Illegal Discrimination

Abstract There is much debate about the ways in which artificial intelligence (AI) systems can include and perpetuate biases lead to unfair often illegal discrimination against individuals on basis of protected characteristics, such as age, race, gender disability. This chapter describes three cases discrimination. It starts with an account use AI hiring decisions that led based gender. The second case explores way when applied law enforcement. final example looks at implications bias detection skin colour. then discusses why these are considered be ethical issues how this ethics relates well-established legislation around proposes two raising awareness possible discriminatory characteristics dealing them: impact assessments by design.
